Reporting into the Regional Director of Operations, the Practice Manager manages all essential business functions in the veterinary practice and supports the practice teams. The Practice Manger works in partnership with the Managing Doctor (MDVM) to ensure successful practice operations, high client satisfaction, and to manage practice teams. In collaboration with the MDVM, the Practice Manager is responsible for ensuring profitability of the practice, growing the business and all the while protecting the practice legacy. The Practice Manager must be a strong people manager, possess great business acumen, and enjoy leading and developing a team. Additionally, they should ensure the practice has engaged and productive teams that are driving high-quality patient care and exceptional client service.

Essential Responsibilities
- Drive revenue for practice growth
- Manage expenses including but not limited to drugs and supplies, labor and facility costs
- Assist in developing and maintaining salary schedules and job evaluations for all employees
- Provide input on an annual budget
- Triage in-house human resource issues and collaborate with the Heartland Human Resources team
- Establish and execute performance evaluations
- Establish internal operating procedures for the administration of the practice to ensure accuracy and completeness of veterinary records and reports, format, and compliance with the accepted hospital practices.
- Partner with the MDVM to ensure all team members are adhering to practice operating procedures that ensure the accuracy and completeness of veterinary records and reports and ensure formats are in compliance with accepted practice guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and laws. This includes but is not limited to OSHA, DEA, EEOC, ADA, and the Department of Labor. Develop and maintain procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
- Frequently connect with Heartland RDO to ensure the practice and teams have everything they need to ensure high performance client satisfaction.
- Partners with Heartland’s Support Center as needed to grow the business.
- Any other duties deemed necessary.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Ability to work on weekends when needed
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous management experience is required
- Previous veterinary medicine experience is preferred
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
- Oversee OSHA safety techniques including use of proper PPE
- Computer skills, MS office applications, etc.
- Basic math and ability to calculate medication dosages
- Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety

Pay Range
USD $50,000.00 – USD $60,000.00 /Yr.
Veterinarian
DeKalb Animal Clinic was initially founded in 1987 to serve the needs of pet parents in Smithville, TN, and the surrounding area. In 2005, our building on West Broad Street was purchased to serve the clinic’s growing clientele. Today, the clinic is a 4,000 sq ft facility and has four examination rooms, a two-table surgical suite, and several large treatment areas. We are equipped with digital radiographs, ultrasound and high-speed drill, polisher and scaler unit. We have expanded our surgical capabilities to incorporating orthopedic surgery to our services. Training is provided for orthopedic, dental and ultrasound as needed. Our veterinary team takes pride in giving our clients and their pets the best and most affordable care. We offer digital x-ray, ultrasound, echo, and on-site blood chemistry equipment.

Essential Responsibilities
- Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
- Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
- Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
- Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
- Maintain patients’ medical records.
- Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited
- AVMA institution.
- Appropriate state licensure.
- Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
